Eating Disorder Awareness Seminar

PA Dept of Health Eating Disorder Awareness Seminar

February 26 – March 4, 2018 is National Eating Disorder Awareness week. In recognition of this, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, in coordination with the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), is hosting a seminar on February 27th to increase awareness of eating disorders. The seminar is free and open to anyone looking to increase their knowledge of eating disorders.Educators, high school counselors, school nurses, health professionals in pediatrics and family medicine, and state agency and legislative employees are encouraged to attend. Peer-to-Peer is a unique, experiential learning program for people with any serious mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. The course was written by Kathryn Cohan, a person with a psychiatric disability who is also a former provider and manager in the mental health field and a longtime mutual support group member and facilitator. An advisory board comprised of consumer members of NAMI, in consultation with Joyce Burland, Ph.D., author of the successful NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program, helped guide the curriculum’s development.

Wednesday classes will be held in Warminster beginning on March 7, 2018
Thursday classes will be held in Perkasie beginning on March 8, 2018

My Life/NAMI CAN Support Groups

NAMI CAN/My Life Too Parents & Supporters Group

A group providing support, education and resources for parents, caregivers and other adult supporters of all youth and those who have experience with mental health, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, foster care or juvenile justice issues. Meetings will be scheduled concurrently with the MyLife BUCKS meetings.  We will share our experience, resources and ideas.

My Life Youth Support Group

“MY LIFE gives youth an opportunity use their experience, talents and voice to make positive changes in their lives while helping others to do the same.” Regular meetings are the foundation of the MY LIFE model, providing opportunities for youth to come together to create a community of support, plan activities and initiatives, practice social skills, learn from presenters and provide peer mentoring. Since its first meeting in 2008, more than 200 regular MY LIFE meetings have been held with at least 1,500 different youth participating. My Life Youth meetings will be held at the same time and place as NAMI CAN/My Life Too meetings.
