Melissa McDermott, Board Member
Melissa McDermott currently serves as Operations Manager at A Woman’s Place, the only domestic violence agency in Bucks County. She has nine years of experience working in social services and the non-profit sector assisting under-served populations to obtain self-sufficiency, justice and empowerment. Melissa went to Philadelphia University where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and a minor in Art. Her time at A Woman’s Place has shown her how important a well –informed, active and responsible board of directors is in the success of non-profit agency. Her experience taking minutes at AWP board meetings, assisting board members with various projects and attending trainings on board governance have motivated her take action at NAMI Bucks County. Melissa is passionate about mental illness, implementing trauma informed practice, and advocating for humane and proper treatment for those living with mental health conditions. Melissa is determined to help after witnessing a family member diagnosed with Schizophrenia face such difficulty throughout his life.
